Over 30 Overseas Works Exhibited Since July 26
17 Masters of Contemporary Art and Their Lesser-Known Masterpieces
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] The Sehwa Art Museum (hereinafter referred to as ‘Sehwa Art Museum’), operated by the Sehwa Arts and Culture Foundation under the Taekwang Group, announced that it will extend the special overseas collection exhibition "The Unknown Masterpiece" until the end of this year. This special exhibition has been held since July in celebration of the 5th anniversary of the Sehwa Art Museum’s opening.
According to Taekwang Group, "The Unknown Masterpiece" is an exhibition featuring over 30 works by 17 overseas artists indispensable to contemporary art history, including Mark Quinn, Salvador Dal?, Man Ray, and Frank Stella.
Through the extension of the exhibition period and the hosting of programs, Sehwa Art Museum aims to introduce lesser-known masterpieces by overseas masters to many people and to discover the artists’ spirituality, philosophy, and the narratives behind their works.
Related children’s educational programs and free lunchtime admission for office workers every Wednesday are also being held. The children’s educational program linked to the exhibition, "To the Unknown World!", will take place at 11 a.m. on the 12th. Participants can enjoy the exhibition with explanations tailored to children’s perspectives along with an instructor and engage in various creative activities. Guardians can join an exhibition tour conducted by a curator. Applications can be made on the Sehwa Art Museum website.
Considering the geographical characteristics of Sehwa Art Museum located in Gwanghwamun, Jongno-gu, Seoul, free lunchtime admission for office workers is available every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any office worker with a business card can view the exhibition free of charge.
Sehwa Art Museum, which owns the representative domestic public art piece "Hammering Man," selected this special collection exhibition through continuous collection and research of its holdings. The company explained that by unveiling overseas masterpieces, it aims to provide visitors with opportunities to enjoy culture and arts and to announce a new beginning for Sehwa Art Museum, which will introduce diverse artistic worlds of domestic and international artists in the future.
This special collection exhibition is held as a paid exhibition at Sehwa Art Museum and can be viewed without a separate reservation except on Mondays, the museum’s closed day.
Meanwhile, Taekwang Group established the Sehwa Arts and Culture Foundation in 2009 to contribute to the popularization of culture and arts, operating Ilju & Seonhwa Gallery and supporting domestic and international artists and exhibitions. In 2017, it expanded and opened as Sehwa Art Museum, showcasing public art pieces on the first floor of the Heungkuk Life Insurance Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and holding various planned exhibitions on the third floor of the museum.
