[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Naver announced on the 8th that it will provide online broadcasting rights for the ‘2022 Qatar World Cup’ and operate community services and various special pages.
Naver Sports will offer live broadcasts of the ‘2022 Qatar World Cup’ matches held from the 21st to December 19th, as well as VOD content of major games. On the 10th, it plans to launch a special page featuring community services and match prediction features.
Along with the ‘Cheering Talk’ function that allows real-time cheering during live broadcasts, Naver will provide a communication platform including the ‘World Cup Official Open Talk,’ where users can gather without participant limits to cheer together, and the ‘Open Talk,’ where reporters covering the event on-site in Qatar can deliver vivid updates and interact with fans.
In particular, the ‘World Cup Official Open Talk’ is expected to offer the fun of enjoying the World Cup together without participant limits among football fans through activities such as watching live broadcasts together, voting, and uploading photos. Additionally, football creator IstarTV will conduct a special live broadcast in the Open Talk.
Moreover, Naver will present diverse content on the sports World Cup special page.
There will also be a ‘Match Prediction’ corner where users who correctly predict all the outcomes of target matches during the event period will receive Naver Pay points. Furthermore, Naver will operate the ‘FIFA+’ archive content run by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), featuring rare footage from the 1930 World Cup and highlights of Korea’s 2002 semifinal achievement, as well as a participant country page where users can check records, tactics, lineups, and match schedules of the 32 World Cup countries.
Jungeonbeom Joo, leader of Naver Sports, said, “In celebration of the Qatar World Cup, which is a national interest, we will utilize various expertise such as live broadcast technology and community services to make the excitement of the event more vivid. Through next-generation community services that freely communicate around sports, we will capture cheers from all over the country and offer new enjoyment in supporting the World Cup.”
Meanwhile, the community service launched last September continues to gain popularity based on the common interest of ‘sports.’ As of the 7th, about 2,000 Open Talk chat rooms have been created in just about a month, and it is especially popular among younger users, with those under 30 accounting for about 42% of users.
