[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District Office, visited the site of the train derailment accident near Yeongdeungpo Station around 9:30 PM on the 6th and urged for prompt action.

A total of 34 people were injured in the train derailment accident that occurred near Yeongdeungpo Station around 8:53 PM, with 21 of them transported to hospitals.

Subway Line 1 operations in both directions were halted immediately after the accident, but service resumed around 9:40 PM, about 50 minutes later.

Why Did Choi Ho-gwon, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor, Rush to the Scene of the Yeongdeungpo Station Train Derailment? On November 1st, Oh Eon-seok, the mayor of Dobong District, visited the workplace daycare center at Dobong District Office to interact with the children and check for any inconveniences while using the IoT integrated system.

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) has installed the 'Daycare Center Quarantine IoT Integrated System' in local daycare centers to create a safe and healthy smart childcare environment.

Selected in September for the Seoul City Daycare Center Infectious Disease Prevention Environment Construction Contest, the district received a subsidy of 94 million KRW and completed installation in 16 daycare centers (public, private, home, workplace) within the area.

The Daycare Center Quarantine IoT Integrated System recognizes the faces of children and visitors at daycare centers to check for fever symptoms related to COVID-19, influenza, etc., and sends real-time text messages to parents about their children's attendance and times. By recognizing visitors' faces, it can screen unspecified visitors, serving as a safety guardian.

Moreover, the IoT-based real-time living environment monitoring system provides real-time information on indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, and fine dust levels at childcare facilities, enabling managers to maintain a more comfortable childcare environment.

On November 1st, Mayor Oh Eon-seok visited the Dobong-gu Office workplace daycare center to experience the IoT integrated system with arriving children and to listen to feedback from parents and childcare teachers.

Mayor Oh said, “Although COVID-19 has significantly subsided, the risk of group infections among children remains concerning. With the introduction of this IoT integrated system, we hope to create a healthy and safe childcare environment where parents can confidently send their children to daycare.”

Jongno-gu (Mayor Jeong Moon-heon) is officially launching a shared vehicle service in partnership with the car-sharing company Socar.

Eco-friendly electric vehicles will be used by the district during business hours, and during weekday nights, weekends, and holidays, they will be available for rent at about a 50% discount compared to Socar’s standard shared vehicle rates.

This service is notable for efficiently utilizing public office resources to enhance citizens’ transportation convenience and contribute to the promotion of a sharing culture.

Eligible users include Jongno-gu residents aged 23 or older who have held a driver’s license for more than one year, as well as employees working at businesses within Jongno.

To use the service, users must download the Socar app and obtain approval by contacting the district office website or the Administrative Support Division. Once approved, vehicles can be rented and returned at the district office’s ground parking lot.

Jongno-gu signed a business agreement with Socar in August to collaborate on solving transportation issues and promoting a sharing culture.

Mayor Jeong Moon-heon stated, “We expect this service to reduce the financial burden of vehicle purchase and maintenance for not only residents but also employees working in local businesses. We will continue to make efforts in various areas to improve mobility convenience, promote the sharing economy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the use of electric vehicles.”

Why Did Choi Ho-gwon, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor, Rush to the Scene of the Yeongdeungpo Station Train Derailment?

Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it completed the installation of 458 smart security lights in the densely populated single-person household areas of Singil 5-dong and Yeongdeungpo Bon-dong at the end of last month.

Smart security lights are LED lights equipped with IoT signal devices that link with a smart app to effectively create a safe route home by enabling emergency reporting and safe return monitoring.

This smart security light installation project, with a total budget of 430 million KRW, aims to eliminate safety blind spots and provide a bright and safe walking environment by installing smart security lights in areas densely populated by vulnerable single-person households.

In June, the district had already installed smart security lights at 358 locations in Singil 1-dong. From August to October, Singil 5-dong and Yeongdeungpo Bon-dong?areas with high proportions of vulnerable residents such as single-person households and elderly living alone, and low LED replacement rates?were selected as project sites, where 458 smart security lights were installed.

The smart security lights maximize efficiency by linking with Seoul City’s ‘Ansim-i App.’ When app users press the emergency button during a crisis, nearby security lights flash, and the emergency is immediately transmitted to the Yeongdeungpo-gu Integrated Control Center and the local police station. This allows not only the police but also nearby people to accurately identify the location, greatly contributing to crime and safety accident prevention in the area.

Additionally, when the ‘Safe Return Monitoring’ feature of the Ansim-i App is activated, the brightness of the lights near the smart security lights automatically increases as users pass by, illuminating dark nighttime paths. Smart security light managers can check the status of the lights in real time via PC or smartphone. In case of a malfunction, even if the manager is absent, the fault details are immediately notified via text message, enabling proactive maintenance.

Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “We expect that the installation of smart security lights equipped with IoT technology will enhance the perceived safety of residents using alleyways late at night. We will continue to do our best to create a safe walking environment for residents.”
