[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the first regular meeting of the ‘Gwangjin Development Communication Committee’ on the 1st at the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium, wishing for a successful start and activities.

The establishment of the ‘Gwangjin Communication Development Committee,’ which was the first approval of the 8th elected term of Gwangjin-gu, was one of Mayor Kim Kyung-ho’s campaign promises emphasizing communication. Mayor Kim aimed to build a system through the committee to seek proposals and advice from resident representatives regarding the development of Gwangjin-gu, current administrative issues, and major policies.

Accordingly, starting with the establishment of the committee operation plan in July, procedures for forming the committee, such as ordinance enactment and budget allocation, were carried out during the second regular meeting in the second half of the year, and finally, the committee was launched on November 1.

The committee, composed of a total of 50 members, is divided into four subcommittees: ▲Safety, Urban, Environment, Transportation, Construction ▲Health and Welfare ▲Economy, Jobs, Culture ▲Communication, Administration, Education, and holds regular meetings periodically.

In addition, through various forms of temporary meetings such as workshops, seminars, and public hearings, opinions are exchanged on major policies and regional development as well as overall administrative operations.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the attendance of 45 members, including Mayor Kim Kyung-ho.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu said, “I promise to communicate with the committee members not only regularly once every quarter but also whenever there are urgent issues, not as a formal committee,” and added, “I ask for your generous advice and diverse opinions.”

The regular meeting proceeded in the order of ▲Introduction of members ▲Report on committee progress ▲Presentation of appointment letters to members ▲Election of co-chairpersons ▲Report on Gwangjin Vision and policy proposals.

Along with Mayor Kim Kyung-ho and Chairman Chu Yoon-gu of the Gwangjin-gu Council, Kim Seok-hoe, Honorary Chairman of the Gwangjin Chamber of Commerce, was elected as co-chairperson to lead the committee.

Especially, during the ‘Gwangjin Vision Report and Policy Proposal’ session, based on the vision and progress of the 8th elected term, major policies, and project introductions, active Q&A took place among the members.

Also, there was a time to propose agendas for 2023 policies and projects, including ▲Balanced development of shopping districts and traditional markets ▲Solving traffic problems around Children’s Grand Park ▲Establishing safety measures for national disasters and large-scale disasters such as COVID-19, earthquakes, and the Itaewon tragedy.

The suggestions and advice presented by the members at this regular meeting will be carefully reviewed and reflected in next year’s communication budget and major project plans.

A member who participated in the regular meeting said, “I will actively participate in the meetings to reflect more residents’ opinions and exchange many ideas for the development of Gwangjin-gu.”
