[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The police held a meeting to discuss measures to strengthen their response to violent crimes against women, which have recently occurred one after another, including the Sindang Station clerk murder case.

The National Police Agency announced on the 30th that from the 26th, a two-day workshop was held with the full attendance of the Women's and Juvenile Division leadership from the metropolitan and provincial police agencies. At this workshop, the results of a comprehensive one-month review of stalking cases, conducted in response to the Sindang Station clerk murder case, were shared. The National Police Agency reported that they inspected a total of 7,284 stalking cases nationwide, strictly took action against offenders by arresting those deemed dangerous, and strengthened safety measures and support for victims. They also added that they took additional measures on 167 cases, correcting some shortcomings such as omissions in entering risk assessment information into the system.

The workshop also included special lectures aimed at improving awareness of the Women's and Juvenile Division functions and shared insights through investigation cases from metropolitan and provincial police agencies, according to the National Police Agency. Furthermore, they discussed countermeasures to strengthen responses to crimes against socially vulnerable groups, such as stalking crimes, and to protect victims in order to safeguard public safety. Woo Jong-su, Deputy Commissioner of the National Police Agency, emphasized at the workshop, "Managers must repeatedly recognize the characteristics and importance of the Women's and Juvenile Division functions and further strengthen responses to crimes that threaten public safety, such as stalking."
