Coupang Part-Time Worker Who Stole Delivered Women's Underwear Sentenced to Prison in First Trial

Part-time Job 'Coupang Flex' and Stealing After Sending Delivery Completion Photos

Coupang Part-Time Worker Who Stole Delivered Women's Underwear Sentenced to Prison in First Trial The court sentenced a man in his 40s to imprisonment on charges of stealing items he had delivered while working as a delivery part-timer.

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The court sentenced a man in his 40s to imprisonment on charges of stealing items he had delivered while working as a part-time delivery worker.

The Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 8 (Presiding Judge Kim Woojung) announced on the 29th that it sentenced Mr. A (41), who was tried on theft charges, to six months in prison on the 26th.

Mr. A is accused of stealing victims' items that had been marked as delivered while working as a delivery driver for 'Coupang Flex' from late April to early May. Coupang Flex is a system by Coupang where ordinary people, not exclusive drivers, can deliver using their own vehicles and receive a fee per delivery.

According to the court, around May 9, Mr. A took photos of four pieces of women's underwear worth 17,900 KRW placed at the victim's doorstep as proof of delivery and sent the photos to the victims before stealing the items. Additionally, he stole one vegetable peeler around May 6 and one women's jacket around May 8.

The court stated, "Mr. A abused his position as a delivery driver to repeatedly steal items that had been marked as delivered. Despite having received a fine earlier this year for similar offenses and having a suspended prison sentence for a similar crime in 2016, he committed the crime again."

However, the court explained the sentencing by saying, "Mr. A admitted to the crime and showed remorse, and the damage cannot be considered very severe. Among the three victims, two have reached settlements and do not wish for punishment against Mr. A."
