[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The bereaved family of the late Lee Dae-jun, a government official who was shot in the West Sea, filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission on the 28th, claiming that their human rights were violated by statements made by Democratic Party lawmakers Ju Cheol-hyun and Ki Dong-min.
The family held a press conference in front of the Human Rights Commission in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the same day, stating, "The two lawmakers are committing unacceptable personal insults and character assassination," and "They caused severe mental shock to the bereaved family." Kim Ki-yoon, the family's legal representative, also said, "They committed secondary mental harm to the bereaved family while forgetting the primary duties of the National Assembly inspection." Lee Rae-jin, the elder brother of Mr. Lee, criticized, "It is absolutely unacceptable personal insult and character assassination."
Earlier, on the 17th, Representative Ki stated at the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee's military court inspection, "One person was brutally harmed by North Korea's military, and this is a matter for which the 'highest dignity' officially apologized." On the 6th, Representative Ju, during the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries inspection, mentioned that Mr. Lee's funeral was held as the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries and argued, "It is the same as treating a government official who ran away during working hours and died in an accident while fooling around as a work-related injury."
