[Mokpo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do has begun seeking measures to normalize city bus operations early through the "City Bus Normalization Joint Council" (hereafter referred to as the Joint Council).
Since the strike by the city bus unions of Taewon Passenger Transport and Yujin Transport began on the 18th, the city formed the Joint Council, which includes the city government, city council, bus companies, Mokpo Office of Education, Mokpo Employment and Labor Office, civic groups, and the Bus Financial Support Deliberation Committee, and held a meeting on the 27th.
The Joint Council requested participation from the city bus union, but the union did not respond. The Joint Council expressed regret over the non-participation, stating that "the union should also seek solutions through dialogue."
Attendees voiced concerns over the increasing complaints from transportation-vulnerable groups due to the prolonged strike, and expressed serious worries about the infringement of students' right to learn, especially with the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) scheduled for the 17th of next month, causing anxiety about commuting to and from school.
The Joint Council unanimously recommended that "Mokpo City, Mokpo City Council, bus company representatives, labor union representatives, and the Mokpo branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor should seek solutions through five-party representative dialogue" for the prompt resolution of the city bus issue.
