Reevaluating the Value of Mushrooms and Sharing the Latest Research Information
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun University (President Min Youngdon) announced that the ‘2022 Korean Society of Mushroom Science Autumn Academic Conference’ will be held on the 27th and 28th.
Hosted by the Korean Society of Mushroom Science and organized by Chosun University, the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science, and others, this academic conference was promoted to reexamine the value of mushrooms as food, functional, and eco-friendly industrial materials and to share the latest research information.
At this event, a platform will be provided for in-depth discussions to foster friendship among key players in Korea’s mushroom industry, including mushroom research institutes, universities, and farmers, and to promote a new leap forward for the mushroom industry.
The event will be held under the theme ‘Tasks and Strategies for the Leap of the Mushroom Industry,’ divided into ‘Part 1: Mushroom Cultivation and Materialization Strategies’ on the 27th and ‘Part 2: Utilization Methods and Application Cases of Mushroom Materials’ on the 28th.
Participants in the academic conference held on the 27th included Professor Kang Heewan of Hankyong National University, Professor Yoon Bongsik of Jeonbuk National University, Dr. Park Mikyung of the National Institute of Forest Science, Dr. Ahn Gihong of the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science, Dr. Kim Kyungje of Jangheung-gun Mushroom Industry Research Institute, Professor Park Myungsoo of Korea National University of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Kim Sangyong, CEO of Dolsan Mushroom.
They discussed topics such as ‘Utilization of Physiologically Active Substances from Indigenous Mushrooms,’ ‘Research Trends on Eco-friendly Industrial Materialization Using Mushroom Resources,’ and ‘Successful Strategies for Organic Mushrooms.’
In Part 2, held on the 28th, participants include Professor Lee Mikyung of Chungbuk National University, Professor Lee Dongsung of Chosun University, Professor Sang Hyunggyu of Chonnam National University, Officer Kim Hyunseok of Jeonnam Forest Resources Research Institute, Researcher Jeong Yonghyun of Chosun University, and CEO Jeong Jihyun of Mush & Co., who will cover topics such as ‘Active Components and Utilization Methods of Hericium erinaceus,’ ‘Fungal Gene Editing Technology and Mushroom Strain Improvement,’ and ‘Development of Industrial Materials Using Mushroom Mycelium.’
Meanwhile, the Korean Society of Mushroom Science, which started as the Korean Mushroom Research Association in 1997, developed into the Korean Society of Mushroom Science Co., Ltd. after its inaugural general meeting in 2003. In addition to its academic functions, the Korean Society of Mushroom Science Co., Ltd. has established a cooperative system encompassing industry, academia, and research to help Korean mushrooms expand globally, becoming a mecca for mushroom research.
