[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Cellumed announced on the 27th that it has signed a strategic partnership with Gaion to advance surgical robot software and patient-specific implant (PSI) total joint replacement surgery.
Through the contract, they will jointly research and develop ▲ AI and big data-based image analysis systems ▲ patient-specific analysis systems ▲ preoperative surgical planning systems.
Gaion is an artificial intelligence (AI) and big data concierge company. It has signed agreements for three consecutive years with demand companies under the government-led AI voucher support project and provides its self-developed AI solutions. Recently, through an investment contract with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), it completed in-kind contributions of related technologies such as visual intelligence, language intelligence, video security, and 30 patents. ETRI is a major shareholder holding shares in Gaion.
Since 2020, Cellumed has completed clinical research using patient-specific implant (PSI) total knee arthroplasty in collaboration with major university hospitals such as Seoul National University Hospital, Severance Hospital, and Jeju National University Hospital, and has filed and registered related technology patents.
PSI reconstructs the patient's computed tomography (CT) images in 3D and performs biomechanical analysis. Based on the analysis, it minimizes bone resection, surgery time, and error range. As it is a surgical technique that enables optimal implant insertion, preoperative surgical planning based on clinical knowledge is important.
Gaion’s self-developed AI visual intelligence (gSmartVision) is a core visual intelligence technology that analyzes and processes elements of images and videos in real time. It can be applied to various intelligent video surveillance systems.
A Cellumed official said, "Interest in PSI is growing among patients with degenerative arthritis," adding, "As society enters a super-aged era, the number of patients requiring joint replacement surgery is continuously increasing."
