[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The 113th anniversary ceremony of the assassination by Ahn Jung-geun was held on the 26th at Ahn Jung-geun Park in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The ceremony, hosted by the Bucheon branch of the Liberation Association, was attended by about 300 people including Jo Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon, Choi Seong-woon, Chairman of the Bucheon City Council, Lee Jebok, Director of the Incheon Veterans Affairs Office, members of the Liberation Association, national merit recipients, and citizens.
The ceremony proceeded in the order of a pre-ceremony cultural performance by cheerleading and an opera troupe, a report on Ahn Jung-geun’s biography, commemorative speeches, poetry recitation, singing of the Ahn Jung-geun song, and three cheers of "Manse".
In his commemorative speech, Bucheon Mayor Jo Yong-ik said, "I feel even more meaningful to hold the ceremony at Ahn Jung-geun Park, Bucheon’s pride and the only one of its kind in the country," adding, "Let us uphold the noble spirit of Ahn Jung-geun and make this country even prouder."
Meanwhile, Bucheon City attracted the statue of Ahn Jung-geun, which was brought from Harbin, China, on October 26, 2009, and established 'Ahn Jung-geun Park.'
Every year on March 26, a memorial service for Ahn Jung-geun is held, and on October 26, an event commemorating the day of the assassination of Ito Hirobumi is held.
