Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee), together with the Gwanak-gu Disabled Sports Association, successfully concluded the 2nd Gwanak-gu Harmony Marathon on the 25th.

Held to promote disabled sports and improve disability awareness, this marathon brought together visually, hearing, and developmentally disabled individuals, wheelchair users, and non-disabled people to run about 2 km from the Byulbitnaerincheon (Dorimcheon) waterfront stage to Boraemae Gap Apartment, fostering harmony.

The Harmony Marathon held at the famous ‘Byulbitnaerincheon’ in Gwanak-gu embodied the community’s aspiration to create a Gwanak where over 20,000 disabled residents and the local community live together.

Along with the marathon, various programs such as darts, Hangung (Korean archery), and visual impairment awareness improvement were operated, as well as electric assistive device inspection and repair booths. These encouraged outdoor activities for disabled people, which had been restricted due to COVID-19, and offered diverse attractions and performances that non-disabled people could also participate in.

The district plans to continue holding the Harmony Marathon to enhance community spirit between disabled and non-disabled people. Additionally, it actively supports disabled sports activation through various disabled sports classes such as gateball and basketball, and hosting disabled sports competitions, aiming to boost independence and quality of life for disabled individuals.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “I am pleased that the Harmony Marathon provided an opportunity for disabled and non-disabled people to run together and narrow the gap regarding disabilities. We will continue efforts to ensure that disabled people can freely enjoy community sports alongside non-disabled people in Gwanak.”
