[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The "43rd Anniversary Memorial Ceremony and Commemoration of President Park Jeonghee," honoring the spirit and legacy of President Park Jeonghee, was held at 10:30 AM on October 26 at his birthplace in Sangmo-dong, Gumi, organized by the Park Jeonghee Presidential Birthplace Preservation Association, with about 1,000 mourners in attendance.

The chief ritual officiant was Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, the second officiant was An Juchan, Chairman of the Gumi City Council, and the third officiant was Director Park Dongjin. During the commemoration ceremony, Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheolwoo and National Assembly members Gu Ja-geun and Kim Youngsik read eulogies. The event also featured a string quartet performance of "Nimi Onneunjji" ("Is the Beloved Coming?") and offerings by heads of organizations, city and provincial council members, and representatives of the Korean miners and nurses association who worked in Germany.

Mayor Kim Jangho, in his eulogy, pledged, "We will foster the semiconductor, defense, and metaverse industries in the Gumi region, innovate in step with the changing times, and unite all capabilities so that Gumi can stand tall again as the central city of Korea, not tarnishing its reputation as a leading advanced industrial city representing the Republic of Korea with the strength of 410,000 citizens." He also stated, "We will engrave the late president's grand vision in our hearts and fulfill the hometown city's responsibility and duty by constructing a memorial hall befitting his stature to carry on his legacy."

With the lifting of social distancing measures that had been in place for the past three years, the flow of mourners did not cease. For the mourners, about ten members of the Sangmo Sagok Morosil group distributed steamed rice cakes, and the Tea Association and the Korean Supporters provided tea service to the attendees.

President Park Jeonghee was born on November 14, 1917, in Seonsan, Gyeongbuk (currently Sangmo Sagok-dong, Gumi), passed away on October 26, 1979, and on November 3, was honored with a state funeral?the first for a head of state in the Republic of Korea?and was interred at the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery.
