Recognition of Contributions to Scientific Investigation in Building Safety Accident Field
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Professor Choi Jae-hyuk of the Department of Architectural Engineering at Chosun University recently received a commendation from the Commissioner of the National Police Agency at the CSI KOREA 2022 International Conference held in Songdo, Incheon.
Since being appointed as an advisory member for forensic science in the field of forensic engineering and safety accidents at the National Police Agency of the Republic of Korea in 2015, Professor Choi has been continuously active.
He participated as a member of the Central Building Accident Investigation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport during the collapse accidents at the Gwangju Hakdong demolition site and the Hyundai Industrial Development Hwajeong I-Park in June 2021, analyzing the causes of the collapses.
On September 15, he conducted a lecture and discussion with forensic investigators on the topic of "On-site Investigation and Cause Analysis of Building Collapse Accidents" at the 4th Forensic Science Experts Invitation Online Forum (KCSI Forum) hosted by the National Police Agency.
He was honored with the award in recognition of his contributions to forensic investigations in the field of building safety accidents.
Professor Choi earned his Ph.D. in seismic engineering from the University of Tokyo in 2003, and subsequently served as a part-time lecturer at Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT) and a visiting researcher at Kobe University. Since 2006, he has been a professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Chosun University.
Professor Choi stated, “Regarding the recent unstoppable building collapse accidents, I will devote my utmost efforts to supporting the professionalism of police administration through active participation of experts and to realizing an advanced disaster prevention city that ensures safety through accurate cause analysis of disasters.”
