[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will hold the '2022 Moran Folk 5-Day Market Festival' at Moran Market, 68 Dunchon-daero, Jungwon-gu, on the 31st from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
This event is jointly organized by Seongnam City and the Moran Folk 5-Day Market Merchants Association to revitalize the local economy, which has been weakened by COVID-19, and to create a market atmosphere where people can enjoy culture and the arts.
An outdoor special stage will be set up at Moran Market for the event.
Comedian Kim Gwi-cheol will host the event, featuring lively performances by Moranjang Pumba, the Seongnam City Traditional Korean Music Orchestra, and invited singers Hyun-sook, Seo Hong, So Kim, Hooni Jung, and Lee Mi-hye.
Near the stage, five institutions and hospitals including the Jungwon-gu Public Health Center Dementia Relief Center, Seongnam Senior Industry Innovation Center, and Dongguk University Oriental Medicine Hospital will operate booths providing health checks and consultations for the elderly.
The Moran Folk 5-Day Market Merchants Association will offer free lunch to 2,000 elderly people on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 12:00 PM. The meal includes rice, soup, fermented skate sashimi, jeon (Korean pancakes), rice cakes, beverages, and fruit served on one table.
Additionally, there will be various prize draws including TVs, refrigerators, and kimchi refrigerators.
The Moran Folk 5-Day Market is held on days ending with 4 and 9 within the 22,563㎡ public parking lot site in the Yeosu Public Housing District. A total of 502 stalls are set up selling a variety of items such as seafood, vegetables, fruits, medicinal herbs, grains, food, clothing, miscellaneous goods, and flowers.
Since September 10 last year, the city has designated the Moran Folk 5-Day Market as an alley-type shopping district eligible for legal support, providing support such as traditional market manager projects and joint marketing.
