Yeongyang-gun Successfully Hosts the 15th Jo Ji-hoon Art Festival... Honoring the Literary Thought and Spirit of the Cheongnokpa Poet The 15th Jo Ji-hoon Arts Festival was successfully held in the Jusil Village area of Ilwol-myeon, Yeongyang-gun, the hometown of poet Jo Ji-hoon.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] Yeongyang County, Gyeongbuk, successfully concluded the ‘15th Jo Ji-hoon Arts Festival,’ hosted by the Yeongyang Writers' Association, with about 1,000 participants including contestants of the writing and drawing contests and literary figures, held in the Jushil Village area of Ilwol-myeon, Yeongyang County, the hometown of poet Jo Ji-hoon.


The ‘15th Jo Ji-hoon Arts Festival’ was held from the 22nd to the 23rd to commemorate the literary thought and spirit of Jo Ji-hoon, a representative Cheongnokpa poet of Korea and a scholar known for his integrity theory.


This writing contest was conducted with the themes ‘Longing, Fallen Leaves, Morning, Moonlit Night’ for elementary, middle, high school, and university/general divisions. The festival’s performance program included a procession marking the start of the festival, a provincial traditional Korean music troupe’s daebuk (large drum) performance, Seungmu (monk’s dance) performance, literary seminar, Jo Ji-hoon poetry song concert, Jo Ji-hoon poetry recitation performance, popera, and Yeongyang Wonnoreum performance.


An exhibition of works by Mrs. Kim Nan-hee and a poetry painting exhibition by members of the Yeongyang Writers' Association were also presented as part of various exhibition programs.


County Governor Oh Do-chang said, “The Jo Ji-hoon Arts Festival is a comprehensive cultural and artistic event representing Yeongyang, the hometown of literature. Since Jushil Village, where the event is held, is the hometown of Jo Ji-hoon, a scholar of integrity who is the root of his literary thought and works, I hope visitors take a meaningful time to explore the village and feel the poet’s philosophy and works.”


Poet Jo Ji-hoon, born in Jugok-ri, Ilwol-myeon, Yeongyang County, is a Cheongnokpa poet and a proud literary master of our region who completed the mainstream of modern Korean poetry through masterpieces of national poetry such as ‘Seungmu’ and ‘Nak-hwa’ (Falling Flowers).


The characteristic of Jo Ji-hoon’s poetry lies in combining traditional rhythm and the aesthetics of lines with modern methods.
