Gwangju Dong-gu, Human Rights Madanggeuk Successfully Concluded with Resident Support

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 24th that it held a human rights madanggeuk performance on the 21st at the Venice lawn in Jisan-dong to enhance residents' human rights sensitivity and spread a culture of human rights respect.

The human rights madanggeuk is a specialized human rights education program through performances such as puppet shows and madanggeuk that Dong-gu has been promoting since 2019. It was planned and produced to overcome various human rights violation cases against socially vulnerable groups caused by the increasing distance in relationships with neighbors.

The main themes include ▲ using informal language and coercion towards mart cashiers ▲ power harassment against delivery workers ▲ ignoring and making unreasonable demands of apartment security guards ▲ CCTV surveillance and lack of rest rights for convenience store part-time workers, which are common human rights violation cases around us.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “This performance incorporated the theme of human rights into an audience-participatory madanggeuk performance to help local residents easily understand human rights,” adding, “I hope that through the performance, people recognize the importance of human rights and do not lose warm perspectives and consideration for their neighbors.”
