These days, with so many homemade cookies available, expectations for chocolate chip cookies have risen, but sometimes, you still crave those classic snacks you enjoyed back in your school days. You know, the ones that claim to be chocolate chip cookies. You can still easily find them at convenience stores or supermarkets. I remember buying them with just a 1,000 won bill, but their prices have gone up quite a bit over the years. But now, as an adult, you can buy every kind and try them all! In the past, I bought them without knowing anything... Now, I can compare all the products to see which one is the most reasonable and delicious. This is what grown-up consumption looks like.

There are many types of chocolate chip cookies, but we picked the ones that most people immediately think of: Choco Chip Cookie, Hershey Chocolate Chip Cookie, Chic Choc, and Moist Chocolate Chip.

Candidate 1
Choco Chip Cookie

Tasting it again after a long time, it really brings back memories. Among the cookies introduced today, this might be the most nostalgic one. It was first released in 1986, and it's amazing that it's still loved to this day. However, it's not individually wrapped, so once you open it, you have to finish it all. Of course, even if it were individually wrapped, I'd probably eat it all at once anyway. Haha.

Sun-ditor: This was the snack I enjoyed the most as a child. I love the crispy texture packed with lots of chocolate, and it reminds me of eating it with milk when I was younger. The price is relatively cheap, and you get a lot for your money, so it's hard not to keep coming back to it.

A-ditor: It's not individually wrapped and has a unique shape, but that makes it a standout cookie. The texture is soft yet crispy, and to me, it felt the most like a classic cookie. The cookie itself has a nutty, grain-like flavor, which adds to its charm. It pairs perfectly with milk. If you dip it lightly in milk for a softer bite, it instantly brings back childhood snack memories.

Hershey Chocolate Chip Cookie

I had only seen Hershey cookies sold in single large packs, so this was my first time seeing them in a box. Am I the only one? Hershey offers a variety of flavors-chocolate, milk, ice cream, and even cookies with mochi or strawberry flavors, not just chocolate chip.

Sun-ditor: I could definitely taste a certain greasiness. There was a buttery undertone beneath the sweetness. The texture is both soft and crispy, but there's not much chocolate, so the mouthfeel is a bit off. Among the cookies featured today, this was my least favorite.

A-ditor: Here's my personal TMI about Hershey chocolate: I don't like their milk, but I love their ice cream! As for the cookie, the texture falls somewhere between a crunchy cookie and a soft brownie. The chocolate is similar to Moist Chocolate Chip, and thanks to its balanced texture and not-too-sweet chocolate, it's not overly sugary. I think it would go better with a hot Americano than with milk. It's individually wrapped, but I noticed some differences in chocolate content between the cookies.

Chic Choc

When I think of chocolate chip cookies, Chic Choc is the first that comes to mind. Maybe it's because it was expensive and only for special occasions back in my school days. I think it's the most basic chocolate chip cookie: perfectly baked, studded with chocolate chips, and round in shape.

Sun-ditor: Maybe it's because I hadn't eaten it in a while, but it didn't taste like the Chic Choc I used to savor. It was below my expectations. It has a lot of chocolate toppings and isn't as sweet as I thought, which is good, but it's a bit greasy and doesn't have the softness I remember. It just feels like an average chocolate cookie now. That's just my personal opinion, so please don't argue with me.

A-ditor: The cookie is well-baked and topped with whole chocolate chips. It's more on the soft side than crispy. There are lots of chocolate chips, but it's not as sweet as you'd expect. However, the floury taste was a letdown for me.

If you say "Moist Chocolate Chip" out loud, it sounds extra chocolatey. There was a time when I couldn't decide between Chic Choc and Moist Chocolate Chip. Now, I just buy both. Peel off the silver wrapper, and you'll find a cookie with a chocolate-milk color. This one is truly moister than Chic Choc. There are six in a box, and once you open it, they're gone in a flash.

Sun-ditor: It's so moist that it stands out from the other chocolate cookies. There aren't a lot of chocolate toppings, but the cookie is sweet throughout, and the nutty flavor means you don't feel like anything is missing.

A-ditor: True to its name, it's super moist! Its color is similar to Hershey's, but it has fewer chocolate toppings than Chic Choc. Still, it tasted the sweetest to me. Because it's so moist and sweet, you might need something to drink with it, like coffee or milk, to fully enjoy the moment.

Jun-ditor: No doubt about it. Even when you pick up the bag, you can feel the difference in weight. It may look like it has fewer chocolate toppings than Chic Choc, but the soft and moist taste is outstanding.
