Bio Association Seeks Breakthrough in SoBuJang with Advanced Know-How

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The Korea Bio Association announced on the 21st that it visited Boston, USA from the 17th to the 21st to learn advanced know-how supporting the development of cutting-edge biopharmaceuticals, together with domestic bio 소재·부품·장비 (materials, parts, and equipment) consortium member companies.

The consortium visit included 16 participants from 10 companies such as ABL Bio, Excel Therapeutics, CellSafe, Amicogen, BTR, Phil Korea Technology, and Sempio Foods, led by Lee Eun-gyu, Honorary Professor of Life Nano Engineering at Hanyang University and advisory committee chairman. The plan is to create cooperation opportunities with US 소재·부품·장비 companies through visits and seminars and reflect these in commercialization promotion strategies.

In particular, they visited GMP facilities producing reagents and parts widely used in biopharmaceutical laboratories, held seminars with image analysis companies capable of identifying types and distributions of tumor and immune cells in tissue microenvironments, and companies with platform technologies developing various therapeutics through gene-edited cells. Additionally, they visited laboratories at Harvard University and Yale University and held meetings with researchers.

Especially during this visit, they toured Lab Central, a globally renowned bio startup space, and the Korea Bio Innovation Center, a forward base for Korean companies entering the US located in the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC). They also shared information on the US bio industry ecosystem and entry strategies for Korean companies through meetings with representatives of Korean companies established in the US.

Oh Ki-hwan, Head of Industrial Policy at the Korea Bio Association, said, “We hope this visit will help domestic bio 소재·부품·장비 companies establish commercialization and overseas expansion strategies by learning the innovation and growth know-how of advanced US bio 소재·부품·장비 companies.”
