[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Yi-gang) has been certified as an 'Excellent Institution for Local Regulatory Innovation in 2022' by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and will receive a special grant of 100 million KRW.
According to Seo-gu on the 19th, the 'Excellent Institution Certification System for Local Regulatory Innovation,' introduced in 2018, is a program operated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to strengthen regulatory innovation capabilities of local governments nationwide, evaluating comprehensive regulatory innovation capabilities of local governments and awarding certification to excellent institutions.
Along with this, it supports demand-centered regulatory innovation by differentiating indicators and scoring according to the characteristics of tasks of metropolitan and basic local governments and giving extra points for on-site collaboration.
This year's certification of excellent institutions was conducted through external committee evaluations targeting 14 indicators in three areas: establishment of regulatory innovation systems, process enhancement, and performance creation and dissemination.
In this evaluation, Seo-gu was recognized for the strong interest of the institution's head in regulatory innovation and for establishing and operating a comprehensive regulatory innovation plan effectively.
In particular, the mayor received high evaluations for outstanding regulatory innovation operational capabilities, such as handling regulatory difficulties on-site visits to small and medium-sized enterprises or small business owners by either resolving them internally or proposing them to central government departments.
A Seo-gu official said, "Regulatory reform is a pledge project and a key policy of the 8th local government administration, so starting next year, we will operate a visiting local regulatory reporting center at least once a month to further strive to resolve unreasonable regulations and difficulties causing inconvenience and burden."
Meanwhile, the awards ceremony will be held at BEXCO in Busan on the 11th of next month.
