"Sustainable Island Residents' Lives" Theme, Held at Yeosu Hidden Bay Hotel from 20th to 21st
Discussing Transportation, Economy, Medical Care, and Welfare for Island Residents' Lives and Future Development Plans
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will hold the ‘2022 International Island Forum in Yeosu’ at Yeosu Hidden Bay Hotel on the 20th and 21st.
Held under the theme of ‘Sustainable Lives of Island Residents,’ this forum was prepared to create momentum for the ‘2026 Yeosu World Island Expo,’ establish an international network, and explore future directions for island development.
The forum will be conducted through a combination of online video conferences and face-to-face meetings, with experts in transportation, regional economy, and welfare from four countries (the UK, Canada, Japan, and Korea) participating for in-depth discussions.
The detailed program begins with a keynote speech on ‘Sustainable Island Development Policy’ by Odongho, President of the Korea Island Promotion Agency, followed by presentations on the session topics: ▲ Sustainable Island Transportation ▲ Sustainable Island Economy ▲ Sustainable Island Medical Care and Welfare.
A city official stated, “We hope that this ‘International Island Forum in Yeosu’ will be a meaningful occasion that gathers much interest and expectation for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo. We plan to hold the forum annually and develop it into an internationally recognized academic event on islands.”
Meanwhile, the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo will be held under the theme ‘Islands, Connecting the Sea and the Future’ from July 17 to August 16, 2026, in Dolsan Jinmo District and the islands of Yeosu City.
About 2 million people from 30 countries around the world are expected to participate and share the infinite possibilities of islands.
