Doing Our Best to Make Changwon City Safe from Fires, Including Responding to High-Rise Building Fires
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam will expand various firefighting infrastructures next year, including a 70m fire ladder truck and wildfire suppression vehicles, to create a fire-safe Changwon City.
First, the city will introduce a 70m fire ladder truck next year to respond more efficiently to fires in high-rise buildings.
The 70m aerial ladder truck can reach up to the 23rd floor of an apartment building, making fire suppression and rescue operations much easier. The existing aerial ladder truck has a height of 53m and can only extend up to the 18th floor of an apartment, limiting its ability to respond to high-rise buildings.
The introduction of this 70m aerial ladder truck is expected to speed up responses to high-rise building fires and significantly contribute to securing the golden time.
Additionally, the city will purchase wildfire suppression vehicles. These vehicles are optimized for wildfire suppression, equipped with a 3000ℓ water tank and 200ℓ foam extinguishing agent, along with a high-pressure pump and high-pressure hose reel for wildfire control. They feature high ground clearance, four-wheel drive for excellent climbing and rough terrain driving performance, and are specialized equipment capable of operating in water depths of up to 1.2m.
Until now, firefighters had no choice but to extend fire hoses or rely on specialized wildfire suppression teams carrying backpack pumps when wildfires occurred.
The introduction of these vehicles is expected to enable efficient wildfire response and play various roles such as establishing defensive lines for residential areas near forests.
Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon City, said, “Expanding various firefighting infrastructures, including fire trucks, plays the most important role in building a safe Changwon City,” and added, “We will never let our guard down to ensure prompt responses to all kinds of disasters.”
