[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has created a bus stop "Smart Shelter" equipped with advanced technology added to various convenience facilities.

The "Eunpyeong-gu Smart Shelter" is a bus stop equipped with convenience facilities such as air conditioning and air purifiers, and uses Internet of Things (IoT) technology to enable real-time remote management from the control center. It provides a comfortable resting place even in situations of air pollution, cold waves, and heat waves, and offers various living and transportation information in real time.

The district selected nine bus stops with a large number of bus passengers as priority locations to be developed into smart shelters. The installation sites are ▲ Bulgwang Station Bulgwang Elementary School ▲ Gusan Station Yeokchon Central Market ▲ Entrance of Suguksa ▲ Yeonsinnae Station Rodeo Street ▲ Yeokchon Station Yeokchon Five-way Intersection ▲ Eunpyeong Tax Office ▲ Western Hospital ▲ Eungam Station Sinsa Five-way Intersection ▲ Jeungsan Station.

The shelter structure is booth-shaped, approximately 5m in length, 2m in width, and 3m in height. Three sides of the booth are made of double tempered glass with strong insulation, providing an open and spacious feeling. For a pleasant internal environment, air conditioning, UV air sterilizers, and fine dust purification systems have been installed.

All systems inside the shelter can be remotely controlled through Internet of Things (IoT) technology from the "Smart City Integrated Control Center." It monitors and controls everything from internal access to system operation and management 24 hours a day.

The entrance door is an automatic screen door controlled by a thermal imaging camera that automatically opens and closes the door. CCTV installed inside and outside shows real-time images of buses approaching the stop, and artificial intelligence detects mask non-wearing and abnormal behavior to provide announcements and share situations with the district office, police station, fire station, and other control centers.

For user convenience, digital signage, public Wi-Fi, wireless phone chargers, tables and chairs, and priority waiting spaces for the disabled and strollers are provided. The digital signage is an advanced electronic display that shows comprehensive transportation information such as buses and subways, as well as various information on district administration and living conveniences in real time.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, "I hope this becomes a space where residents can take a short rest close to their living spaces in the city," and added, "We will continue to do our best so that all residents can enjoy living conveniences in a pleasant environment."

Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) will provide a companionship support fund of 500,000 KRW to small business owners struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

The support target is small business owners whose business location is in Guro-gu and who have been operating for more than six months as of the announcement date (October 17, 2022). The business must have an average sales revenue of 12 billion KRW or less by industry and have experienced a decrease in sales.

If one representative operates multiple businesses, support is provided for up to four business locations, and if there are multiple representatives, support is given to only one representative.

Applications are accepted from October 18 to November 17.

When applying, businesses that received the government's second round of quarantine support funds must bring an ID card, and those that did not receive it must prepare a small business confirmation certificate and value-added tax standard certificate (2019?2022) and visit the Innovation Sarangbang on the basement first floor of the district office. Applications can also be submitted online after logging in on the Guro-gu district office website.

Detailed information such as eligibility and required documents can be found on the district office website.

The district will review applications and pay the selected recipients directly into their accounts.

A Guro-gu official said, "We hope this support will be of some help to small business owners," and added, "We will continue to prepare various support measures to revitalize the local economy and ensure public safety."

Earlier, in the first half of the year, Guro-gu provided disaster relief funds totaling 185.5 million KRW to 371 small business owners who had closed their businesses in the area.

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) will install "road heating cables that melt snow" in four snow removal vulnerable sections where slippery ice accidents are a concern during winter.

The district announced that it will install road heating cable systems at four locations: ▲ Geumnanghwa-ro (around Banghwa Gaehwa APT) ▲ Uhyun-ro (around Ujangsan SK View APT) ▲ Gonghang-daero 61-gil (around Yeomchang Elementary School) ▲ Deungchon-ro 13a-gil (around Sinseong Villa). All are uphill or shaded areas where heavy snow causes frequent traffic congestion.

The road heating cable system installs heating cables 7cm below the road surface, generating heat during heavy snow to melt the snow remotely.

This eco-friendly method reduces the use of calcium chloride snow removal agents, preventing corrosion of road facilities and enabling quick response during heavy snowfall.

The installation of these road heating cables is expected to alleviate traffic inconvenience and prevent safety accidents in steep sections where ice forms.

In addition to installing road heating cables, the district plans to install mobile liquid snow removal agent spraying devices on side streets and alleys to minimize snow removal blind spots and strengthen the snow removal response system by replacing old snow removal vehicles and sprayers.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, "We will do our best to prepare for snow removal to prevent inconvenience and safety accidents during heavy snowfall in winter and to create a safe environmental city in harmony with nature in Gangseo," and added, "Successful snow removal response requires the cooperation of residents, so we ask residents to actively participate in clearing snow in front of their homes and stores."
