Incheon 'Bupyeong Commercial District Renaissance' Project Kicks Off: "Expecting a Model for Incheon's Central Commercial Area"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bupyeong-gu, Incheon has started the 'Bupyeong Commercial District Renaissance' project to be carried out until 2026.

On the 15th, the district held a proclamation ceremony for the Bupyeong Commercial District Renaissance project at Bupyeong Culture Street, attended by District Mayor Cha Juntak, members of the Commercial District Revitalization Association, and merchants, the district announced on the 17th.

Previously, in December last year, the district was selected for the 'Commercial District Renaissance' contest project hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

The project target areas are designated commercial revitalization zones including Bupyeong Culture Street, Bupyeong Theme Street, and Bupyeong Underground Shopping Center (Bupyeong Central, Sin Bupyeong, Bupyeong Station, Bupyeong Market Rotary).

The district plans to invest a total of 8 billion KRW from this year until 2026 to transform the commercial district near Bupyeong Station into a space integrating digital smart technology, shopping, music, and culture.

Recently, after establishing regulations for the installation and operation of the commercial district management organization, four new employees were hired for the Bupyeong Commercial District Renaissance Center. The project is being promoted under consignment by the Bupyeong-gu Cultural Foundation.

District Mayor Cha Juntak said, "Based on the voluntary participation of merchants, we will enhance the competitiveness of the commercial district and create a new model for the central commercial district of Incheon," adding, "I hope today's proclamation ceremony will be the cornerstone of a more vibrant commercial district."
