Jeong Cheong-rae, Chairman of the Science and ICT Committee, "Please cooperate with the adoption of Chairman Kim as a witness by today"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea has insisted that Kim Beom-su, Chairman of Kakao, should be summoned as a witness at the National Assembly audit in relation to the Kakao crisis. Some members of the Democratic Party expressed opposition to the People Power Party's resistance to summoning Chairman Kim as a witness, citing photos of President Yoon Seok-yeol's wife Kim Geon-hee and Chairman Kim taken together.
On the 17th, Park Chan-dae, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, stated, "The People Power Party should join in summoning Chairman Kim as a witness at the audit," adding, "Despite over 40 million citizens experiencing inconvenience and suffering, the People Power Party opposes summoning Chairman Kim as a witness at the National Assembly audit." He continued, "We cannot understand the reason for opposing the summoning of Kakao's chairman as a witness. Is it perhaps because of the photos with Mrs. Kim? Is preserving Mrs. Kim's favor more important than the harm suffered by over 40 million citizens?"
Previously, a photo taken at a restaurant showing Mrs. Kim and Chairman Kim with several others became a topic of public interest. This photo was reportedly one that Mrs. Kim had posted on her SNS in the past.
He said, "Due to yesterday's incident, many small business owners and self-employed individuals have had to endure damages, and many delivery and substitute drivers have suffered livelihood setbacks," adding, "The Democratic Party will thoroughly investigate the causes of this incident to prevent recurrence and will do its utmost to prepare measures to address any legislative shortcomings."
Jung Cheong-rae, also a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party and chairman of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee, said, "We are considering summoning representatives, including Chairman Kim, who bear overall responsibility, as witnesses to explain why this accident occurred and what measures are in place to prevent recurrence. I hope they do not oppose this for reasons we cannot understand," and urged, "Please cooperate with the witness summons in the Science and ICT Committee by the end of today."
