[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Many users are experiencing inconvenience as several services of Kakao affiliates, including KakaoTalk messenger application, KakaoPay, and KakaoNavi, encountered various disruptions on the afternoon of the 15th.
Kakao explained that the disruption is believed to be caused by a fire at the Pangyo data center and that they are working to restore the services. Since around 3:30 PM that day, KakaoTalk has been experiencing delays in sending or receiving messages, eventually resulting in messages not being sent at all.
There is also an issue with logging into the KakaoTalk PC version. On social media, KakaoTalk users are expressing frustration over the 'blackout' situation.
Additionally, Kakao Mobility's KakaoNavi and Kakao T apps have also faced problems with smooth access.
Regarding this, a Kakao representative stated, "Since around 3:30 PM, a fire at the Pangyo Internet Data Center (IDC), which we lease, has caused disruptions affecting services such as KakaoTalk," adding, "We are identifying the detailed scope of the disruption and are making efforts for a swift recovery."
