[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will operate a 'Population Extinction Crisis Empathy Special Lecture' for residents starting from the 26th to respond to the population extinction crisis following regional population aging and decline, and the designation of the area as a population extinction region by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Population Extinction Crisis Empathy Special Lecture is a project selected in the 2022 Ministry of Education Lifelong Learning Specialization Program contest. Its purpose is to emphasize the importance of population by raising awareness of the realistic problems caused by population extinction and fostering a sense of attachment to the region through lifelong learning, encouraging active engagement in population issues.
The special lecture will be held 20 times for 90 minutes each from October 26 to November 25, targeting residents including elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as small groups, institutions, organizations, and clubs with 20 or more members.
Governor Goo In-mo said, “Population decline means regional extinction, so population issues are more important than anything else to maintain the region,” and added, “I hope this special lecture will be a time for all residents, together with the administration, to put their heads together to find solutions to population decline and ways to increase the population.”
