Request to Refrain from Operating Agricultural Machinery in Dense Fog Early Dawn and Just After Sunset
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Jeollanam-do Gokseong-gun (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) is urging farmers to be cautious of agricultural machinery safety accidents as the use of agricultural machinery increases during the harvest season.
On the 13th, Gokseong-gun conducted a campaign to prevent agricultural machinery safety accidents at the Train Village traditional market and on the 14th at the Ok-gwa-myeon traditional market, together with employees from each eup and myeon office.
Gokseong-gun advised refraining from operating agricultural machinery during early dawn with thick fog and immediately after sunset to prevent safety accidents involving agricultural machinery.
They also guided that operating agricultural machinery after drinking alcohol can cause major casualties, so farmers should never handle machinery while intoxicated.
Additionally, to continuously raise farmers' awareness of safety accidents, they distributed promotional materials titled “Agricultural Machinery Safety Accident Prevention Safety Rules,” which provide an easy-to-understand overview of safe agricultural machinery usage.
The county plans to frequently conduct safety accident prevention education using village broadcasts in each eup and myeon, focusing on improper operation, careless driving, and prohibition of use after drinking alcohol.
Furthermore, on the 20th, they plan to hold an agricultural machinery safety accident prevention campaign at the Seokgok-myeon terminal and market areas.
According to Gokseong-gun, the most common agricultural machinery safety accidents are caused by entrapment.
Following that, accidents due to overturning, tipping, and traffic accidents occur in that order.
Looking at the time distribution, the highest proportion of accidents occurred between 12:00 and 15:00.
Excessive work can lead to decreased physical function and concentration, causing accidents, so it is essential to take sufficient rest during agricultural machinery operation.
A representative from the Gokseong-gun Agricultural Technology Center stated, “Agricultural machinery accidents occur most frequently during the autumn harvest and field crop harvesting seasons. We ask that everyone familiarize themselves with safety guidelines and ensure regular maintenance and inspection of agricultural machinery.”
