KCC "Two-Month Broadcast Fee Exemption for Residents in Areas Affected by Heavy Rain and Hinnamnor"

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Korea Communications Commission held its 52nd plenary session on the 12th and announced that it has decided to exempt residents in areas affected by heavy rains and typhoons from subscription fees for two months.

This subscription fee exemption decision is to support residents in certain areas such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and Chungnam, which were declared special disaster zones due to the heavy rains in August, as well as some towns and townships in Pohang and Gyeongju cities in Gyeongbuk, Ulju County in Ulsan, and Tongyeong and Geoje cities in Gyeongnam, which were declared special disaster zones due to Typhoon Hinnamnor in September.

The exemption applies to receivers located in buildings that were destroyed or damaged within the special disaster zones, as well as those placed in evacuation shelters for disaster victims. Households confirmed by local governments to have suffered damage and receiving electricity bill reductions will be exempt from subscription fees for two months without a separate application.

The subscription fee exemption for disaster areas is based on the Enforcement Decree of the Broadcasting Act, which stipulates subscription fee exemptions for socially vulnerable groups.

The Korea Communications Commission stated that it will continue to actively pursue measures to support residents in disaster-affected areas such as special disaster zones.
