Electric Vehicles and Other New Energy Vehicles Total 611,000 Units, 30,000 More Than Initially Expected
[Asia Economy Senior Reporter Cho Young-shin] Last month, a total of 611,000 new energy vehicles, including electric vehicles, were sold in China, according to Chinese media such as Pengpai. This represents a remarkable 82.9% increase compared to the same month last year.
Xinhua News Agency and Caijing reported earlier this month that the number of new energy vehicles sold in China in September was expected to exceed 580,000 units. This means sales surpassed initial estimates by more than 30,000 units.
The total number of vehicles sold in China during September was 1,922,000 units. New energy vehicles, including electric cars, accounted for over 31% of total sales. This is the first time the monthly share of new car sales has exceeded 30%.
The cumulative sales of new energy vehicles over the first nine months reached 3,877,000 units, marking a sharp 113.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers analyzed that government support measures such as extended acquisition tax reductions and subsidies for electric and other new energy vehicles contributed to sales exceeding initial expectations.
It remains uncertain whether China's electric vehicle sales will continue into October. Due to the National Day holiday (October 1?7), the number of business days is limited to 18?19 days, raising concerns about impacts on production and sales.
Meanwhile, the total number of vehicles sold in the Chinese domestic market through September this year reached 14,875,000 units, a 2.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
