In spring, bright pink mountain azaleas create a mountain flower garden, and in autumn, the silver waves of silver grass create a spectacular view.

The silver grass colony forms a large-scale area equivalent to 60 soccer fields (60 hectares) within the Hwangmae Plain of Hwangmaesan County Park in Hapcheon-gun.

Hwangmae Plain, created in 1984 under the government's livestock promotion policy, became a large azalea colony as the dairy cows and sheep raised here ate the surrounding grass, leaving only the toxic azaleas. However, the natural transition from azaleas to silver grass has been occurring, and the silver grass colony has been expanding every year, showing its current appearance.

The 1st Hwangmaesan Silver Grass Festival to be held.

Hapcheon-gun and the Hwangmaesan Festival Committee plan to hold the 1st Hwangmaesan Silver Grass Festival to allow more people to see and enjoy the nation's largest silver grass colony.

The festival will be held for 16 days from the 15th to the 30th at Hwangmaesan County Park in Hapcheon-gun. The opening ceremony will feature invited singer Park Hyun-bin and various cultural and artistic performances, including a starlight concert.

The festival has prepared a sharing cart tour for transportation-vulnerable people who usually find it difficult to visit Hwangmaesan, hoping that they can visit Hwangmaesan County Park and enjoy the silver waves of silver grass and the festival.

The sharing cart tour can accommodate the elderly, disabled, infants, and one accompanying guardian. It can be used by making a reservation in advance on the Hapcheon-gun County Park website, and the usage fee is free.

A marketplace selling agricultural specialties produced and cultivated by local residents and a food market will operate, along with the Love Plus performance by Suh Wajin and a docent tour of Hapcheon Hwangmaesan with a forest interpreter.

The silver grass of Hwangmaesan County Park has gained popularity through word of mouth and various SNS over the past three years, attracting attention as a hot place in the autumn broadcasting industry.

The silver grass of Hwangmae Plain at an elevation of 1,000 meters covers an area equivalent to 60 soccer fields and can be reached by a 10-minute walk from the summit parking lot. The silver grass leaves reflecting sunlight create the illusion of being in a silver sea.

For this reason, filming and scheduled filming include tvN's "Gumiho Season 2," tvN's "Youth Slam," tvN's "Please Take Care of This Life," Netflix's "The Outlaws," Netflix's "Queenmaker," KBS documentaries, and Millet commercials.

Barrier-free sharing path completed in time for autumn.

Hapcheon-gun completed the Hwangmaesan County Park barrier-free sharing path at the end of September this year, selected through the 2022 Green Fund public contest project hosted by the Korea Forest Welfare Institute.

This Hwangmaesan County Park barrier-free sharing path project cost 980 million KRW (588 million KRW from the Green Fund and 392 million KRW from the county budget) and completed a 1.43 km path.

The project was created in the 3rd azalea colony, where mountain azaleas grow most abundantly within Hwangmaesan County Park, and it is expected to provide new attractions not only in spring but also in autumn for transportation-vulnerable people and tourists visiting Hwangmaesan.

Among domestic camping sites, Hwangmaesan Auto Camping Site, located within Hapcheon Hwangmaesan County Park, is the highest accessible by car.

In May, big data specialist company TDI named Hwangmaesan Auto Camping Site as the most popular camping site nationwide among Tmap users.

According to TDI, the cumulative number of vehicle arrivals at Hwangmaesan Auto Camping Site was 26,455, far exceeding the second-place Jaraseom Auto Camping Site's 7,578 vehicles by more than twice.

During this autumn season at Hwangmaesan, campers seeking to enjoy silver grass and healing in the Hwangmaesan forest continue to visit, and Hwangmaesan Auto Camping Site representative Heo Sang-geun actively recommends stargazing the Milky Way on autumn nights at the campsite.

In response to this demand from campers, the county is creating and promoting the Hwangmaesan Forest Camping Site near Hwangmaesan Arboretum, scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

With the support of the Korea Forest Service's national funding project, the establishment of the Hwangmaesan Forest Camping Site will enable four-season stay-type tourism.
