[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Wanyong] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 11th that it has completed construction work on certain sections of National Route 23 and National Route 3, and will sequentially open them starting from the 12th.
First, a 10.12 km section of National Route 23 from Daedeok-eup to Yongsan-myeon in Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, will open from 00:00 (midnight) on the 12th. The entire road width has been expanded (from 8 to 11.5 meters), and a new approximately 1.8 km road bypassing villages and elementary school zones has been constructed.
With this opening, the risk factors for traffic accidents in the section will be reduced, and travel time will be shortened (from 20 to 15 minutes), thereby improving convenience for users.
The section of National Route 3 to be opened is 12.71 km from Seonggiri, Jusang-myeon, Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do to Daeri, Daedeok-myeon, Gimcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is scheduled to open at 15:00 on the 13th. To prepare for emergencies, a reversible lane was added to the existing two-lane road (2+1 lanes), and nine intersections were installed to ensure connectivity with surrounding roads.
This section connects the centers of Geochang-gun in Gyeongnam and Gimcheon-si in Gyeongbuk, and is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by improving mobility.
Additionally, construction is underway on an approximately 4.03 km section from Daeri, Daedeok-myeon, Gimcheon-si to Hwajeon-ri, which connects to the newly opened section, to enhance road safety and convenience, with plans to open in the first half of next year.
Yang Heegwan, Director of Road Construction at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “The roads opening this time are either improved sections of inconvenient existing roads or newly established sections, so the convenience for existing road users is expected to increase. We will continue to strive to create a safe and convenient road environment without inconvenience to road users and support the revitalization of the local economy.”
