[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the morning of the 11th, Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, conducted a cleaning of Yeongdeungpo Park together with environmental public officers and participants in self-support work to mark 100 days of the 8th local government administration.

On that day, Mayor Choi helped with environmental maintenance activities by cleaning the restrooms in the park and disinfecting benches and exercise equipment frequently touched by visitors.

Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “I had a valuable time reflecting on the past 100 days and reaffirming my initial resolve by meeting and communicating with workers and residents who are working hard on site,” adding, “I will continue to do my best as a representative of the public interest to create a future city full of hope and happiness in Yeongdeungpo.”

Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo District in Seoul, transformed into a ‘one-day environmental public officer’ on the 11th and launched a large-scale cleaning of the Gangseo District Office food alley in Hwagok-dong.

This was to find solutions by visiting the site regarding the common issues of all autonomous districts, such as the illegal disposal of cigarette butts and garbage problems, and to listen to the difficulties of merchants and local residents.

On that day, Mayor Kim personally took up a broom and, together with the Gangseo District Office Food Alley Merchants Association and environmental public officers, swept through every corner of the alley to clean up trash.

Mayor Kim picked up cigarette butts accumulated in the rainwater drains one by one and personally washed the floor to remove accumulated grime.

In particular, he meticulously cleaned the residential alleyways inside the food alley and places where cleaning vehicles had difficulty entering.

Mayor Kim said, “The streets need to be clean for customers to visit frequently and for the local economy to be revitalized,” adding, “I took part in cleaning the alleys to create a pleasant street environment and to listen to the difficulties of merchants.”

Mayor Kim’s ‘field-centered cleaning administration’ will continue. He plans to visit 20 local neighborhoods in turn, directly clean vulnerable areas with village residents and environmental groups, and listen to voices from the field.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “I will systematically promote environmental maintenance by visiting places more than twice a month where the effect of improving living environments is great and where residents’ voluntary cleaning awareness can be raised, such as habitual illegal dumping areas in residential neighborhoods, busy food alleys, and shopping districts around subway stations,” adding, “We will spread the culture of ‘sweeping in front of one’s own house and store’ so that residents can voluntarily create clean neighborhoods and make Gangseo District free of cigarette butts.”

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the ‘2022 Nowon District Public and Private Childcare Centers Unity Sports Festival’ held at Madeul Stadium in Nowon District at 10 a.m. on the 11th.

Hosted by the Nowon District Public Childcare Center Association and participated in by about 90 public childcare centers in the area, the sports festival was held with about 2,000 attendees including Mayor Oh Seung-rok, city and district council members, guests, children and parents from childcare centers, and teachers.

The opening ceremony proceeded in the order of the entrance of the Taegeukgi and Olympic flags, national anthem, introduction of guests, congratulatory speeches, lighting of the flame, children’s pledge, declaration of opening, and warm-up exercises, followed by programs involving children and parents.

The sports festival divided the 90 childcare centers into four teams and conducted various physical games that children enjoy, such as ball rolling, flipping colored plates, putting balls into baskets, and popping balloons, followed by recreational time with teachers for each childcare center.

Before the full-scale sports festival began, Mayor Oh Seung-rok checked facilities such as air bounces used by children with on-site staff to ensure a safe event.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon District said, “You must have had a frustrating and difficult time due to COVID-19, but I hope you enjoy running on the grass field today with your parents and friends,” adding, “We will continue to strive to create an environment where children in Nowon District can grow up happily and safely.”

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, received an additional winter COVID-19 updated vaccine booster shot at 9 a.m. on the 11th in the vaccination room on the 2nd floor of Dongdaemun District Public Health Center.

Mayor Lee was prioritized for vaccination as he belongs to the age group of 60 and older according to the guidelines of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and completed the vaccination safely without any adverse reactions.

The updated vaccine used in this vaccination was developed to effectively respond to the Omicron variant virus, unlike the existing vaccines developed based only on the initial strain of the COVID-19 virus.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, said, “We will do our best to ensure that all residents can receive the booster shot safely and promptly,” adding, “We ask for active participation in the winter booster vaccination to prepare for the resurgence of COVID-19 and minimize health damage to high-risk groups.”
