In particular, the dialogues with residents that began simultaneously with the launch of the 8th local government term reflected Mayor Oh Eon-seok's commitment to communication. On July 14, he visited all 14 neighborhood community centers, meeting over 1,700 residents and receiving 94 civil complaints.
Following this, he actively addressed the issues raised during the dialogues by visiting the sites: Chang 4-dong daycare center, Seongdae Baseball Stadium, and the collapsed retaining wall in Ssangmun-dong.
Currently, the entrance and exit road of the logistics warehouse adjacent to the Chang 4-dong daycare center is under negotiation for closure to ensure children's safety, and the retaining wall at Ssangmun-dong 315-115 was fully restored by the end of September.
Communication with residents directly leads to policies that meet their needs. Regarding the relocation of Changdong Gate Plaza within the Seoul Arena project site, a total of 10 meetings were held with the district association, resulting in a final agreement. At Seongdae Baseball Stadium's water play area, promises were made to expand water play facilities and provide free admission to users.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok has launched the "Dobong-style companionship with the vulnerable," a public-private cooperation initiative to care for neighbors and help solve problems. This includes a full survey of middle-aged single-person households in housing-vulnerable areas within the welfare blind spots, linking local hospitals with the Care SOS Center to identify and support patients in care crisis situations, and expanding honorary social welfare officers among workers in community-based industries to build a dense welfare safety net.
After Chuseok, a major cleaning campaign was undertaken to inspect every alley and listen to residents' opinions. On this day, Mayor Oh personally removed cigarette butts from rainwater drains, working hard, and plans to continue cleaning tours across all 14 neighborhoods to create a "Clean Dobong."
The main focus of Dobong-gu's 8th local government term is reconstruction and redevelopment. Immediately after taking office, Mayor Oh formed the Urban Development Support TF team to promote deregulation, improve residential environments, and revitalize housing supply.
Due to the special nature of the semi-industrial area, redevelopment had been difficult in Chang 2-dong, but the district received a response from Seoul City that it is eligible to apply as a candidate site for housing maintenance-type redevelopment, laying the groundwork for redevelopment promotion. Efforts are also being made in various ways to reasonably ease regulations in the Bukhansan altitude district.
Mayor Oh emphasizes that successful policies are those that residents can feel directly. The first example of fulfilling the 8th local government pledges is the temporary exemption from illegal parking enforcement near small-scale nearby businesses.
Since August 22, the district has additionally exempted illegal parking enforcement from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on roads with fewer than six lanes near small restaurants, revitalizing the local economy and receiving great support from residents.
In response to ongoing complaints about insufficient parking at Darakwon Sports Park, the nearby Jungnangcheon parking lot has been additionally opened, and parking fee discounts have been increased.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok stressed that during his term, he will definitely realize practical policies for youth, promote reconstruction and redevelopment, and expedite the early start of the light rail extension between Ui and Banghak. To this end, he plans to reorganize the organization and establish dedicated departments to swiftly implement key policies of the 8th local government term.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu stated, "No matter how well-intentioned a policy is, if residents cannot feel its effects, it cannot be considered a successful policy. Going forward, I will incorporate the public sentiment encountered on the ground?such as limited property rights, unstable employment, small business owners at their limits, inconvenient public transportation, insufficient jobs, and aging residential environments?into core pledge projects to implement substantial policies that residents can truly experience."
