[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 7th, Dongdaemun-gu Mayor I Pil-hyung, marking 100 days since his inauguration, embarked on a local inspection to reaffirm the district administration policy of "Comfortably! Safely! Transparently!" which consolidates the thoughts of the residents, and to review its direction.
As the first schedule of the day, early in the morning, he cleaned around Jeonnong-dong Rotary with environmental officers. By personally performing the basic task of cleaning to create a comfortable city environment, he reaffirmed his original intention regarding Dongdaemun-gu’s future urban plan.
After finishing the cleaning, during the morning school commute time, he visited the areas around Sindap Elementary School and Sungin Middle School, walking with students on their way to school to check the safety of their routes. These schools are located near Bappero, a free meal service center, and there have been numerous complaints about the safety of the school routes. In response, since August 22, the district has deployed four Dongdaemun-gu Safety Guards in this area during school hours from 8 to 9 a.m. The Safety Guards, composed of seniors participating in the Senior Job Project, patrol the surrounding area and act as protectors of students’ routes to school. Mayor I carefully observed whether the children were being safely protected by walking the school route together with the students and the Safety Guards.
Afterwards, from the rooftop parking lot of Lotte Department Store Cheongnyangni Branch, he looked over the Cheongnyangni area and drew a blueprint for making Cheongnyangni a future city by 2050.
Finally, he visited the Dongdaemun-gu Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities located at the Dasarang Happiness Center to review the center’s status and pledged to create a city where people with disabilities and the general public can live happily together.
Dongdaemun-gu Mayor I Pil-hyung said, “During the 100 days, through communication meetings with residents, I was able to meet many residents and hear about local issues on site, and through daily informal meetings with staff, I could vividly learn about work and organizational matters. I am grateful to the residents and staff for their help, which allowed me to settle safely in Dongdaemun-gu,” and added, “Going forward, to achieve the district administration policy of ‘Comfortably! Safely! Transparently!’, I will work hard for four years and want to be recognized as a mayor who ‘kept principles and designed Dongdaemun as a clean and safe future city, truly loving Dongdaemun.’”
