Seoul City-Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Seoul-Style Two-Wheeled Vehicle Experience Training... Applications Open Until the 13th

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on the 7th that they will conduct the "2022 Second Half Seoul-type Two-Wheeled Vehicle Traffic Safety Experience Education" at Sincheon Children's Traffic Park from the 18th to the 25th.

This education program is jointly hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority to reduce the increasing two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents due to the growth of the delivery industry. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Songpa Police Station are cooperating by providing the education venue and promoting the project. Over the past three years, the average number of deaths from two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents nationwide was 494, accounting for 16% of all traffic accident deaths during the same period.

The main target of this two-wheeled vehicle traffic safety education is delivery drivers, and any Seoul citizen who wishes to directly experience and learn safe two-wheeled vehicle driving methods can participate free of charge. Applications for the education can be made on the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's website learning center, and the application period is until the 13th.

During the education period, a professional instructor specializing in two-wheeled vehicle experience education from the Authority will provide focused training to a small number of trainees each session. The program is centered on hands-on experience education that allows trainees to directly feel the correct two-wheeled vehicle riding posture, braking methods, safe driving techniques, blind spot experience, and ways to minimize injuries in case of traffic accidents.

Baek Jung-chul, head of the Seoul branch of the Authority, said, "Continuous and regular education programs are necessary to prevent two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents," and added, "We hope that delivery platform companies (online marketplaces), delivery agencies, and delivery workers all participate in establishing a safe two-wheeled vehicle delivery culture and improving awareness."

Lee Sang-hoon, Director of Traffic Planning at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, "Since two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents tend to lead to moderate or severe injuries, drivers need to be especially cautious," and added, "The city will work with related organizations to provide regular education to citizens to reduce two-wheeled vehicle accidents."
