Hanwha TotalEnergies Creates Forest to Prevent Desertification Through Walking Event

Hanwha TotalEnergies Creates Forest to Prevent Desertification Through Walking Event Hanwha TotalEnergies announced on the 6th that its employees and their families participated in a social contribution activity by raising funds to create a desertification prevention forest through a non-face-to-face walking competition.

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Hanwha TotalEnergies announced on the 6th that it conducted a social contribution activity in which employees and their families raised funds to create a desertification prevention forest through a non-face-to-face walking contest.

During the entire month of September, about 600 employees and their families participated in the non-face-to-face walking contest, donating their steps through the step-donation mobile application 'Big Walk.' A total of 144 million steps were donated, exceeding the goal of 100 million steps.

The 144 million steps correspond to a distance of 72,000 km, and by not using carbon-emitting transportation such as cars for this distance, it is said to have the effect of planting approximately 430 30-year-old pine trees.

To commemorate achieving the walking contest step goal, Hanwha TotalEnergies donated 10 million KRW to the international environmental protection organization, the non-profit corporation Blue Asia, for the creation of a desertification prevention forest. The funds will be used to establish a forest named 'Hanwha TotalEnergies Forest' in desertification areas such as Mongolia and to restore the ecosystem.

Hanwha TotalEnergies has been holding walking contests since 2021 to raise funds for creating forests in areas where desertification is progressing due to indiscriminate development and climate change.

A Hanwha TotalEnergies official said, "This event, planned so that employees can momentarily forget their COVID-19 worries and participate in environmental protection, has now become a regular annual social contribution activity," adding, "We plan to develop various programs that employees can easily and enjoyably participate in."
