[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education plans to consider abolishing on-site training for vocational high schools without guaranteed safety, following last year's accident involving a vocational high school trainee.

On the 5th, the Office of Education announced that it will implement an improvement plan for 'learning-centered on-site training' to ensure student safety, labor rights protection, and normalization of the curriculum.

According to the improvement plan, on-site training will only be conducted at 'leading companies' recognized by the 'Vocational High School On-site Training Leading Company Recognition Committee' and after prior on-site inspections supervised by the Korea Certified Labor Consultants Association.

Additionally, safety will be prioritized by excluding risk factors such as night shifts, and industrial site visits accompanied by both students and teachers are actively encouraged to ensure student safety.

To normalize the curriculum, on-site training will be conducted after the two-thirds point of the second semester of the third grade, which is after the 21st of next month, and employment transitions can only occur after the graduation ceremony.

For recruitment tracks such as public officials, public enterprises, and non-commissioned officers for high school graduates, measures will be taken to prevent disadvantages in competition with students from other cities and provinces. To secure quality employment opportunities that match students' aptitudes and interests, a continuous cooperation system will be maintained with Jeonnam Provincial Government, Jeonnam Technopark, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, and Jeonnam Small Business Association.

Superintendent Kim Dae-jung stated, “We will strive to ensure that on-site training prioritizes student safety and that a continuous youth rights protection system can operate effectively.”
