Ministry of Justice "Resumption of Joint Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Residents"

Ministry of Justice "Resumption of Joint Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Residents"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The joint government crackdown on illegal foreign residents, which was temporarily suspended after the spread of COVID-19, will resume.

On the 5th, the Ministry of Justice announced that from the 11th, a joint crackdown will be conducted for two months in cooperation with the National Police Agency, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Korea Coast Guard.

Minister of Justice Han Donghoon stated, "The premise of a flexible foreigner policy that benefits national interests is the establishment of strict residency order," adding, "We will continue consistent crackdowns on illegal residency."

The Ministry of Justice plans to mainly crack down on sectors where citizens' jobs are being encroached upon, such as parcel delivery and delivery agency services, entertainment establishments, and areas with significant social harm like foreigner drug crimes. Patrols will also be conducted in high-risk areas densely populated by foreigners.

The government plans to take a tough stance, including obtaining and executing search warrants if crackdowns are refused without justifiable reasons.

Illegal foreign residents caught in the crackdown will be deported and banned from entering the country for a certain period.
