[Asia Economy Reporter Sim Nayoung] It has been revealed that among the 12 senior officials at the Financial Services Commission (FSC), there is not a single woman. According to the FSC’s National Assembly audit data released on the 6th, the FSC responded to independent lawmaker Yang Jeongsuk’s question about the gender ratio by year and rank since 2018 as follows.
Currently, out of a total of 327.5 employees, 209 are men and 118.5 are women. Both of the two political appointees are men, and among the 61 employees at grade 4 or higher, 13 are women and 48 are men. Below grade 5, there are 252.5 employees, of whom 147 are men and 105.5 are women.
The absence of women among senior officials at the FSC is not a recent issue. According to statistics showing the situation since 2018, there were no female senior officials that year, but from 2019 to 2021, there was one woman. She was a female spokesperson (at director level) recruited externally, whose contract expired in July, leading her to leave the FSC, and currently, the number is again zero.
The total number of FSC employees has slightly increased each year, from 298 in 2018 to 304.5 in 2019, 307 in 2020, 320 in 2021, and currently 327.5.
