Police Fire Warning Shots to Subdue a Man in His 60s Who Wielded a Weapon at a Prosecutor Investigator

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Police subdued a perpetrator of injury to a direct ascendant who resisted the execution of a sentence by the prosecution with a weapon by firing live warning shots.

On the 5th, the Naju Police Station in Jeonnam announced that they arrested A (66) on the spot on charges of obstructing special official duties.

A is accused of swinging a weapon at a prosecution investigator who came to execute a sentence in the yard of his house in Sanpo-myeon, Naju-si, at 10:36 a.m. the previous day.

He is also known to have swung the weapon at police officers who arrived at the scene after a support request.

A ran out of the house wielding the weapon and fled about 200 meters down an alley, but suddenly turned back to attack the police officers. Despite several warnings, when A did not drop the weapon and continued to resist, the police fired one blank shot and three live rounds into the air.

When A's attack faltered after the warning shots, the police used a three-section baton to knock the weapon out of A's hand and then arrested him.

A was sentenced to prison after being tried without detention on charges of injury to a direct ascendant for assaulting and injuring his elderly mother, but he claimed he was unaware that a sentence execution order (a summons issued by the prosecution for sentence execution) had been issued and resisted with a weapon.

After completing the investigation on charges of obstructing special official duties, the police handed over A's custody to the prosecution.
