Kang Ki-yoon "Is the Ministry of Health and Welfare also giving preferential treatment to former officials?" ... 71% of retirees re-employed at hospitals

17 out of 24 People Reemployed in Hospitals Over the Past 3 Years

Kang Ki-yoon "Is the Ministry of Health and Welfare also giving preferential treatment to former officials?" ... 71% of retirees re-employed at hospitals Kang Ki-yoon, member of the People Power Party.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Cases of preferential treatment for former judges and prosecutors, once considered exclusive to them, have been found to be widespread across most government ministries.

According to Assemblyman Kang Ki-yoon, it has been confirmed that 17 out of 24 retired officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare have been re-employed by hospitals in the past three years.

According to the recent three-year (2019~August 2022) re-employment status data of retired officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare submitted to Assemblyman Kang's office, 17 out of 24 retirees were re-employed by hospitals, and 3 were re-employed by law firms.

Under Articles 17 and 18 of the Public Officials Ethics Act, if a person subject to employment review intends to be employed by a target institution within three years from the date of retirement, they must undergo an employment review by the competent Public Officials Ethics Committee. All 24 individuals were found eligible for employment.

Regarding this, Assemblyman Kang said, “Although the Public Officials Ethics Committee states there is no problem with most retirees from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, which oversees health and medical policies, being re-employed by hospitals, I will carefully monitor whether these retired officials exert unnecessary influence on health and medical policies in the future.”
