Typhoon No. 11 ‘Hinnamnor,’ which made landfall in Korea on September 4, caused enormous property damage nationwide amounting to approximately 1.73 trillion won.

At that time, Changnyeong-gun experienced heavy rainfall of 164.5 mm in Goam-myeon, resulting in some farmland flooding and lodging, fallen utility poles, and flooding damage to roads and houses; however, there were no casualties.

In response to the typhoon’s approach, pre-inspections were conducted on roadside drainage systems, and the county actively responded by quickly identifying typhoon-related damages, emergency measures, and mobilizations, as well as supporting emergency recovery equipment to each eup and myeon.

Accordingly, the county is actively taking preemptive measures to minimize damage from natural disasters. Disaster prevention projects include comprehensive maintenance projects for flood and wind disaster living zones, improvement projects for natural disaster risk zones, steep slope collapse risk areas, disaster-risk reservoirs, and the establishment of early warning systems.

In particular, in June of this year, an advanced water level gauge and alarm device were installed to establish an early warning system targeting the Baegam Reservoir in Changnyeong-eup and the Hyeongok 1 Reservoir in Bugok-myeon, both of which are over 50 years old.

The early warning system collects meteorological measurement data in real time and automatically broadcasts evacuation alerts to village residents when thresholds are exceeded.

In October, the county plans to conduct a full inspection of snow-vulnerable structures to prepare for winter damage, assess the condition and safety of facilities at risk of collapse, and establish reinforcement measures, making every effort to create a safe Changnyeong-gun for residents throughout all four seasons.

In addition, the county is actively promoting various disaster prevention projects, including the comprehensive maintenance project for the Gyori district flood and wind disaster living zone.
