A total of 40 teams participating: 24 overseas Korean teams from 13 countries including the USA and 16 domestic teams
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 4th that the "15th Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister's Cup 2022 Worldwide Korean Diaspora Soccer Tournament," held throughout Hapcheon-gun from the 1st to the 3rd, concluded successfully.
The tournament held in Hapcheon-gun brought together a total of 40 teams, including 24 overseas Korean diaspora teams from 13 countries such as the United States and 16 domestic teams, providing an opportunity for unity.
In addition to the soccer matches, the opening ceremony celebration held on the 1st featured seven popular singers including Joo Hyun-mi and Ji-won, hosted by comedians Kim In-seok and Yoon Sung-ho, with many teams and visitors attending.
During the tournament period, the county created various meeting spaces to welcome visitors, such as an exhibition hall for Korean spring orchids as gifts, a local agricultural specialty product sales area, and promotion of return-to-farming and return-to-village policies, receiving great responses.
In the middle-aged division final held on the 3rd, the Southeast Asia United team defeated the Guam team to win the championship; in the adult division final, the Hapcheon team defeated the San Francisco team to win; and in the silver division final, the New York team defeated the Orange County team to claim the championship.
County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol said, "This tournament contributed to revitalizing the local economy through the visit of many overseas Koreans to Hapcheon-gun. It is expected to have great achievements in various aspects, including promoting many attractions and the beautiful nature of Hapcheon-gun to Koreans worldwide." He added, "I would like to express my gratitude to all the officials who prepared the tournament."
