Various Trainings Conducted to Enhance Job Competencies
Certified as an 'Outstanding Human Resource Development Institution' for 3 Consecutive Times
At the '2022 Human Resources Development Excellence Institution Certification Award Ceremony' held on the 28th of last month, Park Jeong-su, Head of Human Resources at Osstem Implant (right), is receiving the certification plaque from Oh Soo-bong, President of the Korea Industrial Human Resources Corporation.
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Osstem Implant has been certified as an ‘Excellent Human Resource Development Institution’ jointly conducted by four ministries: the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. This recognition is the result of efforts in human resource development and management, such as managing personnel fairly based on ability and providing continuous competency development opportunities to current employees. This is the third consecutive certification following 2016 and 2019. As a result, Osstem Implant will be exempt from regular labor inspections for the next three years, receive additional points in public bidding, and enjoy various benefits such as preferential low-interest loans and tax support.
Increasing Domestic and Overseas Employees Sixfold to Challenge the World’s No. 1 Dental Company
Osstem Implant has held the world’s number one position in implant sales for five consecutive years from 2017 to last year. The next goals are to become the world’s number one in implant sales (Vision 2026) and the world’s number one in the dental industry (Vision 2036). To achieve this, the company plans to increase the number of domestic and overseas employees from about 5,000 as of the first half of 2022 to around 30,000 by 2034.
An Osstem Implant official said, “Thanks to outstanding products and technology, we have grown into a global implant company today, and the source of this R&D competitiveness is ultimately ‘people.’ To become the global number one, we are putting all our efforts into securing quantitatively and qualitatively excellent talent across all fields, including basic science researchers, software and AI technology experts, IT developers, and overseas sales personnel pioneering global markets.”
In fact, Osstem Implant established and has been implementing an ‘External Excellent Talent Acquisition and Internal Excellent Talent Retention Plan’ early on in 2009, hiring about 300 to 500 new employees annually. Thanks to active job creation efforts, the company was selected as a ‘Korea’s Best Job Creator’ in 2020 and also won the Silver Award for ‘Trusted Company for Employment of Persons with Disabilities True Company’ in the same year.
Advancement of Human Resource Discovery, Management Systems, and Infrastructure
To secure abundant human resources, Osstem Implant is steadily expanding recruitment channels by building a talent pool database and activating an internal referral system. The company is also implementing programs such as software planning talent development and the Osstem Industry-Academia Scholarship Program to proactively attract specialized personnel. At 13 business sites nationwide, including Busan where the implant production plant is located, the company is leading efforts to attract local talented individuals and contributing to alleviating regional job shortages.
Recently, the company has been focusing on increasing youth employment. It operates a corporate-linked long-term field training program (IPP), runs a work-study dual system with local universities, and has fully introduced a confirmed-hire internship system through agreements with specialized institutions. The recruitment interviews have also been rationalized by enhancing and standardizing question pools focused on job duties, and an interview verification advisory group has been established.
Education programs to improve job competencies after joining the company are also being operated in an advanced manner and have received positive responses. New employees receive basic job training by their respective headquarters along with job competency level-up courses to help them settle in.
Additionally, a job competency evaluation program is in place, segmented by rank and years of service, with annual competency enhancement training conducted. For sales personnel, there is a specialized sales personnel development program aimed at nurturing domestic and international implant market experts, and leadership competency enhancement training is regularly provided to managers to increase team synergy.
Furthermore, the company fosters a lively workplace and learning culture by holding various themed cultural days inviting employees, their families, and acquaintances, as well as monthly organizational culture lectures featuring invited experts from various fields.
Focused Expansion of Research and Sales Personnel in New Business Areas
Osstem Implant is rapidly expanding its business area into the future of dentistry, ‘Digital Dentistry.’ To this end, it is focusing on attracting research personnel for digital devices and imaging equipment such as CAD/CAM, 3D printers, oral and model scanners. The company is also actively expanding its pool of researchers for next-generation implant technology development and IT/SW developers for building digital treatment environment platforms and advancing internal information systems and infrastructure.
In addition to digital dentistry, the company is massively recruiting sales personnel for new business expansions in dental equipment and materials, pharmaceuticals, and interior design, while also increasing production personnel as it expands production scale in line with its world number one implant sales status.
Moreover, with the goal of quickly increasing the number of overseas subsidiaries from the current 30 to over 50 and raising market share in key markets such as China and the United States, the company is also focusing on strengthening local resident staff and sales personnel.
Jungsoo Park, Head of Human Resources at Osstem Implant, emphasized, “Thanks to continuous interest and investment in human resource development under the management policy ‘Good is the enemy of better,’ we have achieved results such as three consecutive certifications as an ‘Excellent Human Resource Development Institution.’ We will continue to improve and develop our HR systems, education frameworks, curricula, and infrastructure to strengthen our unique specialized job competencies.”
