[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] After the National Foundation Day holiday, the number of new COVID-19 cases doubled.
According to Seoul City and other local governments on the 4th, from 12 a.m. to 9 p.m. nationwide in 17 cities and provinces, the number of new COVID-19 cases was recorded at 33,588. This is an increase of 17,863 cases compared to the same time the previous day (15,725). It is interpreted that the number of COVID-19 tests postponed during the National Foundation Day holiday from the 1st to the 3rd was concentrated on this weekday, causing the number of confirmed cases to double.
Considering additional confirmed cases added until midnight, when the tally closes, the number of new cases is expected to be in the mid-30,000s.
However, the overall downward trend of the outbreak continues. The number of new cases on this day is 1,127 fewer than a week ago on the 27th of last month (34,715). Compared to two weeks ago on the 20th of last month (39,772), it decreased by 6,184, clearly showing a declining trend.
From the 28th of last month to this day, the daily new cases for one week were 36,139 → 30,864 → 28,497 → 26,960 → 23,597 → 12,150 → 16,423. The average daily number of new cases during this period was 24,947.
