Suncheon-si Initiates Establishment of Carbon Neutral Green Growth Basic Plan

Kick-off Meeting for the Establishment of the Comprehensive Plan for Climate Change Response

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 4th that it has begun establishing a basic plan for carbon-neutral green growth to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The basic plan for carbon-neutral green growth is a statutory plan that must be established every five years with the goal of achieving the mid- to long-term national greenhouse gas reduction target of 40% by 2030 and preparing a customized detailed implementation plan to realize carbon neutrality by 2050.

The plan, targeted for completion by February next year, includes key contents such as the current status and outlook of greenhouse gas emissions and absorption, discovery of Suncheon-type carbon-neutral projects, education and publicity, and the establishment of an implementation management and feedback system.

At the kickoff meeting held on the 30th of last month, the city reflected the opinions of related departments proposed at the meeting in the project promotion, setting a greenhouse gas reduction roadmap and establishing sector-specific implementation strategies. It plans to continuously incorporate diverse opinions from experts, civic groups, and residents into the basic plan through advisory meetings and surveys.

A Suncheon City official said, "As carbon neutrality by 2050 emerges as a key issue and the role of local governments as practical implementers is emphasized, we will realize carbon neutrality by 2050 through establishing a basic plan that reflects the characteristics of Suncheon City."
