[Asia Economy Reporter Bora Lee] As the super-strong hurricane 'Ian' struck Florida, USA, a cameraman reporting on the hurricane damage was caught helping evacuees during a live broadcast.

According to CNN and others on the 1st (local time), on the 28th of last month, Gran Alice, a cameraman from Australia's 7News, was broadcasting live the damage caused by hurricane 'Ian' in the Naples area of Florida, USA, along with correspondent Tim Lister.

The live footage shows evacuees with children and belongings evacuating on a flooded road behind the reporter. Seeing this, Alice asked for Lister's understanding, put the camera down on the ground, and hurriedly ran to help the evacuees.

Lister explained, "We are helping some people cross the water here. The cameraman over there is trying to assist the evacuees," adding, "Their homes are flooded, and they have to abandon their houses."

Alice was busy carrying people's belongings and supporting evacuees who had fallen in the water. After helping for a while, Alice returned to his position and picked up the camera. Lister praised him, saying, "Good job, Gran."

Viewers called Alice a 'hero' and praised him highly. The footage quickly spread not only in Australia but also in the United States. Fox News in the US stated, "(The angle of the scene where he helped people was not good) but his heart toward the Floridians in need was definitely the best."

Also, Lister, who was with him, posted on his Twitter account after the broadcast, "In the past 40 years, a cameraman has never left his post during a live broadcast," and added, "Well done, Gran."

Meanwhile, 'Ian' is the 5th strongest hurricane in US history, making landfall in Florida on the 28th of last month and causing at least 100 deaths by the 3rd. According to foreign media, the damage caused by Ian is estimated between $68 billion (about 97.98 trillion KRW) and $100 billion (about 144.1 trillion KRW).
