Changnyeong County Council Wraps Up Administrative Audit 'Carrot and Stick' of Legislative Activities' Bloom

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] The Changnyeong County Council in Gyeongnam is being praised for appropriately using both carrot and stick approaches through the ‘Administrative Affairs Audit,’ known as the flower of local autonomous councils. The active performance of first-term council members also drew attention.

The county council conducted a sharp and solution-oriented questioning offensive against the heads and staff of each executive department over eight days, from September 26 to October 4.

Chairman Hong Seong-du, in his review, stated, “Despite the short period, our council members showed passion and expertise by visiting each eup and myeon office and county-affiliated institutions one by one to listen to problems and difficulties, grasp the actual conditions, point out issues, and suggest improvement plans to utilize as audit materials.” He also sought understanding from the executive officials by saying, “This may be a different perspective seen through the eyes of the residents on parts neglected during county administration,” which attracted attention.

Chairman Hong demanded ▲ thorough selection and follow-up management of various subsidy project recipients ▲ sufficient prior review and prior resident consultation before project implementation ▲ thorough management of public facilities ▲ faithful submission of audit materials.

Chairman Hong said, “Despite the domestic and international economic downturn caused by recent price increases and interest rate hikes, thanks to the united efforts of the county governor and public officials, we were selected as an excellent institution for two consecutive years in the ‘City and County Major Business Joint Evaluation,’ securing a financial incentive of 170 million won, and achieved various significant and minor results in evaluations. I express my gratitude for this.”
