[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, announced on the 4th that the government organization restructuring plan could be announced during the National Assembly audit period.

After the audit countermeasure meeting on the same day, Joo told reporters, "Since the audit period is on the 20th, it could be announced during that time."

He said, "The regular session of the National Assembly ends on December 9, and if it passes that, the next session is in February, so the government organization restructuring would be too delayed," adding, "I hope the plan can be released as soon as possible and concluded during the regular session."

Regarding the government organization restructuring plan, he stated that it is principle to proceed through government legislation, but it could also be done through parliamentary legislation. This is interpreted as considering the situation where the opposition holds the majority. Joo said, "If it takes too much time or there are circumstances, it can be done through parliamentary legislation."

The People Power Party and the government held a high-level party-government consultative meeting at the Prime Minister's official residence in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the day before, and agreed to prepare and announce a government organization restructuring plan soon to fulfill President Yoon Seok-yeol's election pledges. It is expected to include the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, separation of health and welfare, and the establishment of the Overseas Koreans Agency and Immigration Agency.
